Welcome to the first ever post on our blog! We’re very excited to start sharing the many strange places we find throughout our travels, but before all that I thought it would be good to start by explaining just what the heck we’re doing here in the first place (and the better question of, why??)
It all starts about a year ago in October 2025, when two TV Production students (that’s us) needed to come up with a pitch idea for a television series as our final year project – a travel show that sought out lesser-known, mysterious and unusual attractions to visit. Long story short, our pitch got the green light from our tutor, and we spent the next couple months researching, scripting, contacting potential participants, shooting and editing what eventually became the pilot episode of Peculiar Places. The project was such an amazing experience from start to finish, and we got to meet so many wonderful people who were so cool to work with! One of our participants even hosted a screening of the episode, along with a couple other films from our class.
But now that we’ve graduated, trying to get our foot in the proverbial door of the industry is, well, really f*cking hard. Add the fact that we both had to move back home with our families across two different points of the UK, and it makes our dream much further than we’d like. But we don’t want to give up on something that we put so much hard work and passion into!
So that’s where this blog comes in. Make no mistake, we’re gonna be putting just as much effort into this as we did the pilot, and we’re hoping this will ultimately serve as the series’ calling card to grab the attention of potential commissioners or backers, who may be interested in turning Peculiar Places into its own series. But we’re also doing this for a bit of fun and a good excuse for us to get out of our homes on a regular basis (at least until we manage to find ourselves some full time work!)
We’re still getting this site set up, so bear with us while we sort out things like mailing lists and tags and formatting without crying on the floor. Things may break or not work, and if that happens then do let us know so we can fix it. We’ll be slow to post to start with, but once we get things going you can expect at least one post every couple of days. We’ll also be updating you with any changes we make to the site, so be sure to watch this space! (and maybe sign up for the mailing list so you can get posts sent straight to your inbox while you’re at it?)
