Our Story
Peculiar Places was originally a pitch for a television series as part of our final year degree project back in 2025, which we then turned into a 17 minute pilot episode, which you can find on YouTube. It’s a combination of our love for travel, strange things, history and documentary, taking the format of a quirky travel programme for UK television.
We wanted to make something that wasn’t the same copy-paste of the usual sights and attractions, but to instead give support and attention to the wonderful and odd places, monuments and businesses. All too often do we find ourselves stuck in our own bubbles, afraid to venture outside and explore something new – even when that’s why we travel in the first place! We want to bring back the adventure and the exciting spark that makes exploring new places and cultures worth stepping out of our comfort zone.
This blog is just another way for us to keep this passion alive, while we figure out how to actually achieve our ambitious little dream (and also sort out our own lives as unemployed graduates). For now we operate in the UK due to it being our home, but we would LOVE to be able to take this idea global.
Ultimately, we want to help people fall in love with every part of the UK, while encouraging a more open-minded approach to the things we discover and learn about. If we can bring back the wonder and warmth of exploring someplace new, while also supporting the many small businesses and the local history that may go unnoticed, then perhaps we can bring that positive mindset back home with us.
